Terms of Service
Last updated: December 18, 2025Welcome to Ask Tutor. By using the Ask Tutor mobile application (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully. If you are under 18, please review these Terms with your parent or guardian.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to use the App. By using the App, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.
If you are between 13 and 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their minor's use of the App.
3. Description of Service
Ask Tutor is an AI-powered educational assistant designed for K-12 students. The App provides:
- Help understanding academic concepts
- Step-by-step explanations of problems
- Learning support for math, science, English, social studies, and other subjects
- Analysis of homework images to provide guidance
- Personalized explanations based on grade level
4. Educational Purpose and Limitations
Learning Tool, Not Answer Machine: Ask Tutor is designed to help you learn and understand concepts, not to do your homework for you. The App:
- Provides explanations and guidance, not direct answers to copy
- Encourages critical thinking and learning
- May refuse requests that appear to be seeking homework to copy
- Is a supplement to, not a replacement for, classroom instruction
AI Limitations:
- AI responses may contain errors or inaccuracies
- Complex problems may require teacher or human tutor review
- The App cannot replace professional educators
- Always verify important information with your teacher or textbook
Not Professional Advice: Ask Tutor provides educational information only. The App does not provide medical, legal, psychological, or other professional advice. For concerns outside academics, please consult appropriate professionals.
5. Academic Integrity
You agree to use Ask Tutor in a manner consistent with your school's academic integrity policies. This means:
- Using the App to learn and understand, not to cheat
- Following your teacher's guidelines on permitted resources
- Being honest about what work is your own
- Not misrepresenting AI-assisted work as entirely your own when not permitted
We are not responsible for how you use the information provided. Using the App inappropriately may violate your school's honor code.
6. User Accounts
To access all features, you must create an account using Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account
- Not sharing your account with others
- All activities that occur under your account
7. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the App appropriately and not to:
- Violate any laws or school policies
- Submit inappropriate, harmful, or offensive content
- Attempt to extract inappropriate content from the AI
- Harass, bully, or harm others
- Share personal information about other students
- Use the App for non-educational commercial purposes
- Attempt to circumvent content safety measures
- Reverse engineer or modify the App
Misuse of the App may result in account suspension or termination.
8. Content Safety
Ask Tutor includes content moderation designed to:
- Provide age-appropriate responses
- Refuse inappropriate requests
- Maintain a safe learning environment
- Detect and block harmful content
If you encounter inappropriate content, please report it to safety@distributedtech.org.
9. Subscriptions and Payments
Free Tier: The App provides limited free usage with a daily question quota.
Tutor Pro: Premium subscription with unlimited questions and additional features.
Payment Processing: All payments are processed through Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store).
Subscription Terms:
- Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
- You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your device's account settings
- No refunds for partial subscription periods
Minors: If you are under 18, ensure you have parental permission before subscribing.
10. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, features, and educational content, is owned by Distributed Technologies LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App.
You retain ownership of the questions and content you submit, but grant us a license to process and store it to provide the service.
11. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. We are committed to protecting student privacy.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through the App settings.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. We do not warrant that:
- AI responses will be accurate, complete, or reliable
- The App will meet your specific educational needs
- The App will be uninterrupted or error-free
Always verify important academic information with your teacher or authoritative sources.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DISTRIBUTED TECHNOLOGIES LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM:
- Your use of or inability to use the App
- Inaccuracies in AI-generated educational content
- Academic consequences from use or misuse of the App
- Any other matter relating to the App
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO THE CLAIM.
15. Indemnification
You (and your parent/guardian if you are a minor) agree to hold harmless Distributed Technologies LLC from any claims arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
16. Modifications to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms in the App. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
17. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration, except for claims in small claims court.
